The FDM successfully carries out Slowmed children’s workshops at CETT, Hospitality School of Barcelona

20151204_105115In the framework of the European Project Slowmed, Food as a means of dialogue in Mediterranean Contexts, the Mediterranean Diet Foundation held last Friday, December 4th several children’s workshops for the promotion of the Mediterranean Diet and the incorporation of the children in the world of family cooking.

The workshops, conducted by an expert nutritionist at CETT, School of Hospitality and Tourism of Barcelona (entity with whom the Foundation has an agreement to continue with the purposes of the Project) had a great success. They collected a good attendance and also a perfect welcome among children aged 9 and 10 of the Escola Els Pins of Barcelona, who enjoyed a learning space of healthy cuisine in the common style “little chefs in the Mediterranean”.

In addition, and in order to introduce the young to the world of cooking from an educational and entertaining way, the students of this school had the opportunity to taste the dishes prepared by themselves, and to discover the benefits of the Mediterranean Diet pyramid and various recipes that soon they will have the opportunity to cook in family, once received the Children recipe Book that the Project Slowmed promotes.

Finally, the little ones took home a basket with several healthy foods of the Mediterranean Diet, as well as useful information about this European Project and its educational purposes for the promotion of creativity around the Mediterranean Diet within the participant countries.

The Slowmed Project encourages the promotion of the Mediterranean culinary heritage through cooperation of a number of chefs and culinary events, among the countries of Spain, Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Palestine and Portugal. It has a total budget of 1,054,598.60 euro, 90% co-funded by the European Union (Basin Programme 2007-2013 Mediterranean sea) through the Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI – European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument), and aims to improve a common feature of the Mediterranean population, which is inherent in its identity: the Mediterranean Diet.
