El seu bagatge a trav\u00e9s de diferents civilitzacions cl\u00e0ssiques li atorga un reconeixement elevat per les seves propietats medicinals i la seva consist\u00e8ncia com a producte alimentari. Els grecs l&#8217;assemblaven a altres varietats de fruita seca com la castanya i l&#8217;avellana, utilitzant-la, sobretot, amb fins medicinals i cosm\u00e8tics. Doncs en treien tints per als cabells i tamb\u00e9 la roba. Encara que la nou &#8220;persa&#8221; tradicional que es consumeix a Europa tamb\u00e9 es pugui anomenar nou &#8220;anglesa&#8221; est\u00e0 no va ser popular a Anglaterra fins despr\u00e9s de la Primera Guerra Mundial, per all\u00e0 els anys vint. De la m\u00e0 d&#8217;anglesos, arribarien a Calif\u00f2rnia on s&#8217;adaptarien a les condicions ambientals proporcionant aix\u00ed una gran producci\u00f3 de nous.
